Custom requests are the least understood purchase in adult content, and the one where people most often pay for something that does not match what they had in mind. The problem is almost always the brief rather than the price. Here is how the process works, what actually drives cost, and how to specify a request so that what arrives is what you wanted.

The three ways customs are sold

Direct commission. You approach a creator, agree a price and a brief, and pay up front. Most flexible, most expensive, and entirely dependent on that one person's availability and reliability.

Turnaround — anything urgent carries a premium, and a relaxed deadline is the easiest way to reduce a quote.

What does not meaningfully drive price is the concept itself. A complicated idea that is simple to shoot is cheap; a simple idea that needs three people and a specific location is not.

What a good brief contains

Be specific about the things that are hard to change afterwards and relaxed about the rest. Worth stating: length, framing and camera style, wardrobe, setting, whether audio matters, and the resolution and file format you need.

Worth leaving open: anything a creator can interpret without changing the shoot. Over-specifying raises quotes and lowers quality, because the further a request is from what someone normally produces, the worse the result usually is.

Two questions to ask before paying: what is the revision policy, and what happens if it cannot be delivered? A clear answer on both is the best available signal about who you are dealing with.

How to not get burned

Agree the deliverable in writing before any money moves — length, format, delivery date, revisions. Use a platform with a dispute process rather than a direct transfer wherever you can. Be realistic about timelines, since a custom is a production rather than a purchase and a fortnight is normal.

Expect exclusivity to cost extra, and check whether it is even on offer: many creators reserve the right to sell the custom afterwards, and if that matters to you it needs stating at the brief stage, not on delivery.
